Hi there! We are Rob and Marti McBride. We met and eloped in 1994 and have never looked back. We have lived together in Louisiana, Nebraska, and Kentucky. We have 5 children, and together we have traveled from the East Coast to the West Coast and have seen all of the Southern states. Rob is a Navy Veteran and has always loved to travel. Marti’s Dad (A.C. Fulcher, or N4SVD if you’re a HAM) has been a full timer for 28 years. It seems that travel is just in our blood.
In February of 2021, we visited Marti’s Dad in Quartzite, Arizona. She had been out there many times, but Rob had never experienced the true full time RV lifestyle until that visit. During her time there, Marti decided to change her doctoral research to focus on alternative healthcare access for the full time RVer. We decided at that point that the best way to do the research was to live the lifestyle. So when we got home, we decided to start shopping. We found a good deal on a great used 2001 Class A Fleetwood Bounder and took the plunge!
Robert turned in his notice at his job and signed up for RV maintenance school. Marti put in her notice and started looking for traveling assignments. It all came together and on April 19, 2021, we hit the road!
We came up with our online name one evening while playing around with the words Sojourn and Journey. To sojourn is to stay somewhere temporarily. It is often used as a spiritual term to relay the idea that our stay here on this earth is a temporary passing. We also like the idea of the journey being the destination. We spent too many years saying “When this,” or “Once we get”, but the truth is that life happens while we are waiting for perfect conditions that never come. So we combined the two. RV Sojourney is our life spent trying to see as much as we can of this beautiful country while enjoying the journey and remembering that our stay here is fleeting.
